Some examples are improper matter being used such as Oreos and milk instead of bread and wine, or a lay person celebrating the "Mass." Those things are not simply "illicit" (against the manner in which the Church wants it to be performed), but are "invalid" and no Mass has occurred.

As for #15, think of it in terms of Mary. We of course believe and teach that she is the Mother of God. The heresy held by Nestorious was that she was only the mother of Jesus' human nature and not his divine nature. But as we know, women do not give birth to "natures" but instead to "persons." Thus she gave birth to the "person" of Jesus Christ who had two natures, human and divine. Thus the Council of Ephesus proclaimed her to be "Theotokos" or "Mother of God."

Transform that thought to who was on the cross at Calvary. It was the very same Jesus! Yes it was God. It was the one person with his two divine natures. It was one of the three persons which comprise the one God. It was the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity, "God."

Just as "persons" are born, so too "persons" die. The person of Jesus died. We cannot separate out the natures of Christ. He wasn't divided up on the cross. So we have confidence in saying that "God died on the cross." It wasn't only his human nature that died, but all of him.

Lots of opportunities with this quiz for catechesis!Deacon Tom Langhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13056149939136199202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1093104336548549908.post-80822680323695725102010-01-09T11:12:47.828-05:002010-01-09T11:12:47.828-05:00Good quiz! I didn't get all 20 correct - but close. We should pass this out after Mass or print it in the Bulletin. One question a week - request answers emailed or written in. Print the answer in the next weeks bulletin and a prize for the person(say a Mass?) with the right answer -- pick from a hat if more than one correct answer. A great teaching tool.
