Response from Senator Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr.

Those of you who may have also written to Senator Casey about the Freedom of Choice Act ("FOCA") likely received a similar response to the one I just received that is posted below. We will certainly hold him to his word on this terribly important issue! In light of his extremely disappointing support for Obama, let's hope the joke's not on us!

"Dear Mr. Lang:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding S. 1173, the Freedom of Choice Act. I appreciate hearing from all Pennsylvanians about the issues that matter most to them.

The Freedom of Choice Act was introduced in the Senate on April 19, 2007 and is currently being considered in the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, of which I am not a member. Were it to become law, the Freedom of Choice Act would codify the Roe v. Wade decision and remove all governmental restrictions on abortion prior to viability.

As you know, I was elected to the United States Senate as a pro-life candidate. I believe that life begins at conception, and that the role of government is to protect, enrich, and value life for everyone, at every moment, from beginning to end. These principles guide my actions as a public official. Therefore, I do not support the Freedom of Choice Act.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other matter of importance to you.

If you have access to the Internet, I encourage you to visit my web site, http://casey.senate.gov/. I invite you to use this online office as a comprehensive resource to stay up-to-date on my work in Washington, request assistance from my office or share with me your thoughts on the issues that matter most to you and to Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,
Bob Casey
United States Senator"
